Level 4 Diploma in Supporting Teaching & Learning
Course Information
The Level 4 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning develops practitioners currently qualified at level 3 to become Higher Level TA Practitioners. Learners wishing to move on to degree level studies will also benefit from its introduction to in-depth research, assignment and report writing. This course does not automatically convey “Higher Level Teaching Assistant” status.
Entry requirements
It is expected that learners will be at least 19 years old, hold a full level 3 Teaching Assistant or childcare qualification and have a good standard of literacy and numeracy. It is anticipated that learners will have at least 2 year experience as Teaching Assistants.
Learners will need to be working in a school setting since an important part of the assessment process involves evaluating skills in real working situations.
Qualification Structure
There are 9 mandatory units and 7 option units. One optional unit must be chosen.
Total qualification hours: 620
Estimated time to complete the course: 18 months
Assessment
All units are assessed by First Avenue Training. Methods used could include:
- Professional Discussion
- Interpretation of knowledge from direct observation of practice in the workplace
- Witness evidence
- Reflection of own practice in real work situations
- Written Assignments
- Learner’s own plans and written records
- Observation of children
- Portfolio of evidence
- Oral questioning
- Research project set by us
